Narrative:

After completing the weight and balance paperwork we realized we had been overloaded by 247 pounds. The operations personnel never mentioned anything to us at all. We promptly notified the station what needed to be done to bring it within the acceptable limits (remove two passengers or one passenger and multiple bags). I then coordinated the information with the flight attendant as the first officer obtained a new ATC slot. Unfortunately the new slot time resulted in a massive delay with many tight connections. I made an announcement to the passengers regarding the delay; and called our dispatcher to keep him up to date on the delay. Weight and balance was recalculated after removing two passengers; and was within the proper limits. We departed at our slot time as assigned by ATC.
