Narrative:

On the last four flights; all on different aircraft; the first officer and I found that the on board aero charts contained duplicate and outdated charts. For example; on one flight; there were two ILS 7L approach charts in our trip kits. The error was discovered during the pre-approach briefing. The first officer had the correctly dated chart (october 09). I had a march 09 chart. This is a serious safety concern because it would be very easy for both pilots to have the wrong chart out. Immediate action needs to be taken to prevent this type of error from occurring. Perhaps an operational bulletin should be issued requiring a check of the index pages to ensure that the proper chart is being used. All on board charts should be replaced immediately.
