Narrative:
During initial climb following takeoff; lost all electrical power. Turned off all electrical systems and recycled alternator but no response. Retrieved hand-held standby communications radio made necessary connections and established radio contact with departure on assigned frequency. Briefed controller and requested return. Permission granted to return and hand off to tower; cleared to land runway xxl. Asked for and received permission to orbit east of runway in order extend landing gear manually. With no power; gear 'down and locked' annunciator lights inoperative. Requested permission from tower from a low approach for visual inspection of landing gear. After receiving permission; executed low approach. Tower advised that landing gear was down and cleared me to land using left hand pattern. Applied full power; entered left hand pattern and landed safely.
