Narrative:

We were on ILS approach when we selected flaps 15 to configure for landing. We got a trailing edge split flap (asymmetry) with no roll. The left flap indicated flaps 10 and the right indicated flaps 5. We proceeded to do a missed approach to allow time to do the QRH procedures for the trailing edge flap asymmetry. We accomplished this procedure and notified the flight attendants and dispatch of the problem and that we would be doing a precautionary landing. We notified ATC and declared an emergency to have the emergency equipment standing by. We then proceeded to make a flaps 5 landing with no incident. We cleared the runway and taxied to the gate. I then called dispatch and let them know what happened and talked to maintenance control about the problem. Maintenance met the airplane and I handed it over to them.cause was due to a mechanical failure or indicating problem.
