June 2009; I was changing the left engine compartment perimeter seals; in accordance with (in accordance with) job card and amm chapter 36-10. I accidentally installed the check valve backwards. I misunderstood the pictures on the last page of the job card. I was made aware of what I have done by three maintenance personnel about ten days later; and the problems that have come of my actions and what could have happened. I was also given a written warning. I believe that; there should be (engine) runs added to the job card or the (check) valve should be a rii item.

Title: A Mechanic reports that after changing the left engine compartment perimeter seals on a Saab SF-340; the aircraft returned to the airport. A Check valve was found installed backwards.

Narrative: June 2009; I was changing the left engine compartment perimeter seals; in accordance with (IAW) Job Card and AMM Chapter 36-10. I accidentally installed the Check Valve backwards. I misunderstood the pictures on the last page of the Job Card. I was made aware of what I have done by three Maintenance personnel about ten days later; and the problems that have come of my actions and what could have happened. I was also given a written warning. I believe that; there should be (engine) runs added to the Job Card or the (Check) valve should be a RII item.
