Narrative:

We received an A320 wheel assembly that was torn down by an outside vendor. The outboard half of the wheel had been dropped on concrete. The vendor failed to notify our shop. The damaged wheel was not due for ndt (non destructive testing) but was caught by a mechanic during a visual inspection. The wheel has been identified as scrap at a value of more than $4;000. There was a huge potential for wheel failure or injury to tire shop personnel by not reporting this incident.
