Narrative:

Did not notice spoiler message on initial cockpit set-up. After extensive ground delay due to waiting for maintenance paper work; we were finally ready for engine start when I noticed spoiler EICAS message. Asked mechanic flying with us to watch spoilers as I cycled them using both the yoke and the speed brake handle. Mechanic reported back that all spoilers were working normally. Appeared that this was simply an indication anomaly. Flight manual indicated that airborne this message was just crew awareness; no action required. Since the airplane was being flown for maintenance and the mechanic said all spoiler operations were normally; I opted to take the airplane and have it fixed at the maintenance facility along with the scheduled maintenance activity planned for the aircraft. After landing; maintenance personnel there found that the 2L spoiler control module was not installed.
