Narrative:
Landing. Gear handle was lowered and gear indicator stayed at three red. Executed a go-around. Completed checklist which called for cycling gear. Gear came down normally with three green lights. ATC asked if we wanted to declare emergency turning final. We said yes just as a precaution. Landed normally. Told tower no further assistance required and terminated emergency.

Title: A MD-80's landing gear did not extend on the first attempt. The crew executed a go around and declared an emergency. The gear extended normally on the second attempt as described on the emergency checklist.
