Narrative:

After takeoff and gear retraction there was loud noise and vibration. Realized one of the gear door might be open. I was pilot flying and captain was pilot monitoring. Captain went through QRH and cycled gear to try to alleviate problem. Decided to return for landing. Captain took control of airplane and I became pilot monitoring. During switch of duties each of us thought the other had declared an emergency with ATC for the overweight landing as the gear was indicating down and locked. After landing we discussed the events and realized that quite possibly neither of us had declared an emergency for the overweight landing at 140;000 pounds.
