Narrative:

Enroute to lga I was the pilot monitoring on the first flight of the day. I was backing up the pilot flying with raw data navigation. As we approached etg I was not receiving a signal. I tried to identify the morse code through the dap and did not receive any tone. I thoroughly check and brief the notams before each flight and hadn't recalled seeing a NOTAM for the etg VOR. I checked the release over to see if I had missed it and there were no notams for etg in my release. I asked new york center if the VOR was out of service and they said it had been for some time. I'm unsure of how long 'some time' is; but I was left with the impression it was long enough that it should have showen up on our release. While this didn't create any direct safety issues it did give me cause for concern. Lga (our destination) has a large number of notams; many of which appear two and three times on the release (which is a separate issue); but if I was missing that NOTAM I was not confident that I wasn't missing others. Once on the ground I contacted my dispatcher and advised him that this was apparently missed. The dispatcher was very helpful; and stated that there were no notams for etg. This seems to be a common problem. I don't know exactly what the fix should be. My understanding is that we receive our notams from a vendor. Maybe a thorough audit of that vendor would be appropriate.
