Narrative:

En route, approach and landing routine. Landed runway 24R at day from visual approach after telling tower runway was in sight about 10 mi on final. Just before turning off the runway (24R) aircraft landing lights appeared ahead of us. This aircraft was landing on runway 6L. Was not aware of this traffic until we were beginning to clear runway 24R. When first sighted this aircraft, it appeared to be on a 1-1 1/2 mi final. I called the day tower supervisor and requested an explanation for this (after on ground). He said he assumed we were not told of this and had we been told, it probably would have been unacceptable to me. The copilot was flying and I was working the radios and neither of us heard any radio transmission concerning this. He said they were attempting to save time and fuel for this other aircraft (believed to be a freighter). In my judgement this would have been a serious problem if for some reason we would have had to go around, or if we had not cleared the runway where we did, the other aircraft would have had to go around. Total lack of communications and sound judgement! The supervisor said he would pull the tape to see if in fact we were told of this. As I said earlier, neither of us in the cockpit knew of this nor did we acknowledge any radio transmission pertaining to this.

Title: MLG CLEARED TO LAND WHILE AN LGT IS ON APCH TO THE SAME RWY FROM OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

Narrative: ENRTE, APCH AND LNDG ROUTINE. LANDED RWY 24R AT DAY FROM VISUAL APCH AFTER TELLING TWR RWY WAS IN SIGHT ABOUT 10 MI ON FINAL. JUST BEFORE TURNING OFF THE RWY (24R) ACFT LNDG LIGHTS APPEARED AHEAD OF US. THIS ACFT WAS LNDG ON RWY 6L. WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS TFC UNTIL WE WERE BEGINNING TO CLR RWY 24R. WHEN FIRST SIGHTED THIS ACFT, IT APPEARED TO BE ON A 1-1 1/2 MI FINAL. I CALLED THE DAY TWR SUPVR AND REQUESTED AN EXPLANATION FOR THIS (AFTER ON GND). HE SAID HE ASSUMED WE WERE NOT TOLD OF THIS AND HAD WE BEEN TOLD, IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN UNACCEPTABLE TO ME. THE COPLT WAS FLYING AND I WAS WORKING THE RADIOS AND NEITHER OF US HEARD ANY RADIO XMISSION CONCERNING THIS. HE SAID THEY WERE ATTEMPTING TO SAVE TIME AND FUEL FOR THIS OTHER ACFT (BELIEVED TO BE A FREIGHTER). IN MY JUDGEMENT THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS PROB IF FOR SOME REASON WE WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO AROUND, OR IF WE HAD NOT CLRED THE RWY WHERE WE DID, THE OTHER ACFT WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO AROUND. TOTAL LACK OF COMS AND SOUND JUDGEMENT! THE SUPVR SAID HE WOULD PULL THE TAPE TO SEE IF IN FACT WE WERE TOLD OF THIS. AS I SAID EARLIER, NEITHER OF US IN THE COCKPIT KNEW OF THIS NOR DID WE ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RADIO XMISSION PERTAINING TO THIS.
