Narrative:

Flight was cleared for takeoff by tower and was flown by captain. Toga was commanded; then set by autothrottle verified by first officer. Before reaching 80 KIAS; the aircraft experienced a sharp yaw to the right accompanied by a loud bang. Captain commenced a rejected takeoff with no further incident. Passenger witnesses sitting on the right side of aircraft; report smoke and sparks out of right engine. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the aircraft was taken out of service and handed over to maintenance. Follow up revealed that maintenance could find no discrepancies and the aircraft was returned to service. The aircraft successfully flew several flight cycles before another compressor stall occurred. After this event the engine was removed from the aircraft and sent to the manufacturer for inspection. The engine was a CF34 and was nearly new at the time of the incident.
