Narrative:

Medium large transport X, enroute to dab at FL220, was overtaking small transport Y, landing at 23. I issued descent clearance to small transport Y to FL200. I checked the position of medium large transport Z landing jax also overtaking smy Y. At that point I realized medium large transport X was overtaking small transport Y faster than I expected. I then issued a clearance to medium large transport X to turn right to heading 200 to get him away from small transport Y. Neither pilot commented about traffic on the frequency. When separation was reestablished, medium large transport X was clrd on course. Cause: error in judgement on the relative position between medium large transport X and small transport Y.

Title: LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION BETWEEN ACR MLG AND CPR SMT IN AN OVERTAKE AT THE SAME ALT.

Narrative: MLG X, ENROUTE TO DAB AT FL220, WAS OVERTAKING SMT Y, LNDG AT 23. I ISSUED DESCENT CLRNC TO SMT Y TO FL200. I CHECKED THE POSITION OF MLG Z LNDG JAX ALSO OVERTAKING SMY Y. AT THAT POINT I REALIZED MLG X WAS OVERTAKING SMT Y FASTER THAN I EXPECTED. I THEN ISSUED A CLRNC TO MLG X TO TURN RIGHT TO HDG 200 TO GET HIM AWAY FROM SMT Y. NEITHER PLT COMMENTED ABOUT TFC ON THE FREQ. WHEN SEPARATION WAS REESTABLISHED, MLG X WAS CLRD ON COURSE. CAUSE: ERROR IN JUDGEMENT ON THE RELATIVE POSITION BETWEEN MLG X AND SMT Y.
