Narrative:

The flight was uneventful until approaching the FAF to ZZZ. I was flying and asked for flaps and the indicators split at 1 degree for the right flap and 1 degree for the left flap. We went around to troubleshoot the problem. We went through the flight manual and pulled the circuit breaker and matched up the flaps. We then ran the 'flaps asymmetrical trailing edge' checklist. We also ran the 'flaps -- no trailing edge' checklist as directed. Dispatch checked landing distances for us. We declared an emergency; had the fire department standing by; did a cabin advisory; and landed uneventfully on runway xx in ZZZ. Landing picture was significantly high and the airplane wanted to float; but touchdown was in the normal zone and autobrakes were set to one because of the higher approach and touchdown speeds. We taxied to the gate with the flaps left as they were for maintenance to troubleshoot.
