Narrative:

50 miles west of ZZZ at FL290; the ride was moderate chop and FL270 was requested and granted. We had been encountering light rime ice throughout the climb and cruise and the engine anti-ice was on. Power was set at 78% mach due to MEL 27-4 and within minutes the #1 vibration gauge began to climb. I increased power to 82% and 2 bangs were heard with a slight fluctuation in the N1. The vibration gauge returned to a 1/2 unit reading and all other indications remained normal. FL190 was requested and granted and we departed the icing conditions at FL210. The combination of MEL 27-4 speed restriction and the rapid onset of moderate icing from light icing following the altitude change contributed to the icing of the #1 engine in a very short period of time. Supplemental information from acn 816804: the power setting was 78% and mach was .65 due to our compliance with MEL 27-4. We landed and wrote up the jet. It was subsequently taken out of service.
