Narrative:

Departed ZZZ XA15 am; set course to mht as cleared; activated autoplt and started climb set to 140 KTS. I noticed pfd #1 accelerating in climb. Pfd #2 and backup airspeed read 135 KTS; but pfd #1 kept speeding past my airspeed. I felt my best option was to get heading to airport so declared an emergency; was turned back to ZZZ. Once heading back started to review corrective steps; activated pitot heat left which caused immediate corrective action to normal airspeed. I canceled emergency due to pilot corrected solution with ATC; ATC accepted and cleared back on course to mht then as cleared. No further problem. This was clear air icing in VMC which has now taught me to fly with pitot heat even though clear VMC. Pilot did not panic; but flew the airplane with backup indications.

Narrative: DEPARTED ZZZ XA15 AM; SET COURSE TO MHT AS CLRED; ACTIVATED AUTOPLT AND STARTED CLB SET TO 140 KTS. I NOTICED PFD #1 ACCELERATING IN CLB. PFD #2 AND BACKUP AIRSPD READ 135 KTS; BUT PFD #1 KEPT SPDING PAST MY AIRSPD. I FELT MY BEST OPTION WAS TO GET HDG TO ARPT SO DECLARED AN EMER; WAS TURNED BACK TO ZZZ. ONCE HDG BACK STARTED TO REVIEW CORRECTIVE STEPS; ACTIVATED PITOT HEAT L WHICH CAUSED IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTION TO NORMAL AIRSPD. I CANCELED EMER DUE TO PLT CORRECTED SOLUTION WITH ATC; ATC ACCEPTED AND CLRED BACK ON COURSE TO MHT THEN AS CLRED. NO FURTHER PROB. THIS WAS CLR AIR ICING IN VMC WHICH HAS NOW TAUGHT ME TO FLY WITH PITOT HEAT EVEN THOUGH CLR VMC. PLT DID NOT PANIC; BUT FLEW THE AIRPLANE WITH BACKUP INDICATIONS.
