Narrative:

We just landed runway xx at ZZZ. We were told to contact ground at taxiway B. When we contacted ZZZ ground; we were told; 'taxi straight ahead to the FBO.' the problem is that runway xx was in use; and at no time was 'hold short' or 'cross xx' mentioned. Had I not called the tower back to tell him this; we would have collided with inbound traffic for runway 22. If I was a student pilot; this would have been really bad. Ground control should be explicit in regard to crossing traffic. This was not safe.

Title: UPON EXITING LANDING RUNWAY; CESSNA 172 PILOT IS INSTRUCTED BY GROUND CONTROL TO PROCEED 'TO THE FBO.' DOING SO REQUIRES CROSSING AN ACTIVE RUNWAY WITH A LANDING AIRCRAFT ON A POTENTIALLY CONFLICTING COURSE.
