Narrative:

We departed teb at XA20 local from runway 24 to follow the teb 5 departure. As we hit 1500 ft; we turned right heading 280 degrees and initiated a climb to 2000 ft. The controller immediately questioned our altitude and we descended back 1500 ft till passing 4.5 DME and climbed up to 2000 ft. We had set the altitude alerter to 2000 ft instead of waiting till 4.5 DME; so we didn't get the alert for going above the assigned 1500 ft altitude.
