Narrative:

I was assigned to pick up one of our helicopters that had been left overnight at the fair grounds; and return it to our base of operations. This area is located adjacent to the approach end of the runways at the airport. Another crew flew me into the location and we landed next to the helicopter I was to fly. The crew requested and was granted a clearance for this operation. After dropping me off; that helicopter departed with a clearance from tower. After completing a preflight inspection about 30 mins later; I prepared for departure and contacted the tower. I requested a departure from my position at the fair grounds with a climb to the south. This departure crosses the approach end of both runways. I heard a fixed wing aircraft report downwind. The controller initially instructed me to hold. I acknowledged the hold instruction over the radio. Approximately 15-20 seconds later the controller cleared me for takeoff. Before lifting; I advised the tower that I did not have a visual on any incoming traffic. As I lifted off; I looked east toward where airplanes would normally be on final and did not observe any traffic. About the time I crossed the left runway; I heard a pilot announce that he was going around. The tower told the pilot to report downwind again. When I cleared the airport boundary; I maneuvered the aircraft so that I could look back toward the airport. I observed an aircraft in a go around flight profile approximately 1/3 of the way down the runway at about 400 ft AGL. The tower controller later approved me for a frequency change as I was clearing the airspace to the southwest.

Title: HELI DEP ADJACENT TO AN ARPT WITH ATC APPROVAL; EXPERIENCED CONFLICT WITH PATTERN TFC.

Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED TO PICK UP ONE OF OUR HELIS THAT HAD BEEN LEFT OVERNIGHT AT THE FAIR GNDS; AND RETURN IT TO OUR BASE OF OPS. THIS AREA IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE APCH END OF THE RWYS AT THE ARPT. ANOTHER CREW FLEW ME INTO THE LOCATION AND WE LANDED NEXT TO THE HELI I WAS TO FLY. THE CREW REQUESTED AND WAS GRANTED A CLRNC FOR THIS OP. AFTER DROPPING ME OFF; THAT HELI DEPARTED WITH A CLRNC FROM TWR. AFTER COMPLETING A PREFLT INSPECTION ABOUT 30 MINS LATER; I PREPARED FOR DEP AND CONTACTED THE TWR. I REQUESTED A DEP FROM MY POS AT THE FAIR GNDS WITH A CLB TO THE S. THIS DEP CROSSES THE APCH END OF BOTH RWYS. I HEARD A FIXED WING ACFT RPT DOWNWIND. THE CTLR INITIALLY INSTRUCTED ME TO HOLD. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE HOLD INSTRUCTION OVER THE RADIO. APPROX 15-20 SECONDS LATER THE CTLR CLRED ME FOR TKOF. BEFORE LIFTING; I ADVISED THE TWR THAT I DID NOT HAVE A VISUAL ON ANY INCOMING TFC. AS I LIFTED OFF; I LOOKED E TOWARD WHERE AIRPLANES WOULD NORMALLY BE ON FINAL AND DID NOT OBSERVE ANY TFC. ABOUT THE TIME I CROSSED THE L RWY; I HEARD A PLT ANNOUNCE THAT HE WAS GOING AROUND. THE TWR TOLD THE PLT TO RPT DOWNWIND AGAIN. WHEN I CLRED THE ARPT BOUNDARY; I MANEUVERED THE ACFT SO THAT I COULD LOOK BACK TOWARD THE ARPT. I OBSERVED AN ACFT IN A GAR FLT PROFILE APPROX 1/3 OF THE WAY DOWN THE RWY AT ABOUT 400 FT AGL. THE TWR CTLR LATER APPROVED ME FOR A FREQ CHANGE AS I WAS CLRING THE AIRSPACE TO THE SW.
