Narrative:
Maintenance scheduling sent a smoke detector to ZZZ. I installed the smoke detector in the aft cargo; forward position; then signed it off. The smoke detector that was sent to ZZZ by maintenance schedulings request; the part number was wrong; the part number should never have been in our system; because it is not effective to our Q400. When we received the part it was already issued to the aircraft.

Narrative: MAINT SCHEDULING SENT A SMOKE DETECTOR TO ZZZ. I INSTALLED THE SMOKE DETECTOR IN THE AFT CARGO; FORWARD POS; THEN SIGNED IT OFF. THE SMOKE DETECTOR THAT WAS SENT TO ZZZ BY MAINT SCHEDULINGS REQUEST; THE PART NUMBER WAS WRONG; THE PART NUMBER SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN IN OUR SYS; BECAUSE IT IS NOT EFFECTIVE TO OUR Q400. WHEN WE RECEIVED THE PART IT WAS ALREADY ISSUED TO THE ACFT.
