Narrative:

On completion of a part 135 leg; I was informed by maintenance control that a maintenance item; that was deferred at the end of the previous leg; should not have been conducted without a ferry permit. Maintenance control failed to recognize that the current confign was not MEL'able; and that the aircraft needed a ferry permit. Supplemental information from acn 803555: we were notified that a dmi that we had talked to maintenance about; and that we were released with; was not legal. Possibly a lack of understanding between what the crew was seeing and what maintenance was understanding.
