A B737 flight crew was alerted by a flight att that a military passenger had activated a ration heater to warm his mre. The flight att confiscated the heater and treated it as hazmat until arrival.

Narrative:

On visual approach for landing; I was notified by the 'a' flight attendant that a military passenger in uniform had opened his 'meal ready to eat' and activated the 'flameless ration heater' to heat the meal. The flight attendant confiscated the 'meal ready to eat'/'flameless ration heater' and properly treated it as hazmat until we landed (about 5 mins later) and handed it off to the ground security coordinator for proper disposal. No injuries or aircraft damage occurred because of this event and the passenger apologized several times.

Title: A B737 FLT CREW WAS ALERTED BY A FLT ATT THAT A MILITARY PASSENGER HAD ACTIVATED A RATION HEATER TO WARM HIS MRE. THE FLT ATT CONFISCATED THE HEATER AND TREATED IT AS HAZMAT UNTIL ARRIVAL.

Narrative: ON VISUAL APCH FOR LNDG; I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE 'A' FLT ATTENDANT THAT A MIL PAX IN UNIFORM HAD OPENED HIS 'MEAL READY TO EAT' AND ACTIVATED THE 'FLAMELESS RATION HEATER' TO HEAT THE MEAL. THE FLT ATTENDANT CONFISCATED THE 'MEAL READY TO EAT'/'FLAMELESS RATION HEATER' AND PROPERLY TREATED IT AS HAZMAT UNTIL WE LANDED (ABOUT 5 MINS LATER) AND HANDED IT OFF TO THE GND SECURITY COORDINATOR FOR PROPER DISPOSAL. NO INJURIES OR ACFT DAMAGE OCCURRED BECAUSE OF THIS EVENT AND THE PAX APOLOGIZED SEVERAL TIMES.
