Narrative:

The pre departure clearance clearance as displayed on the mcdu was slightly different from the filed flight plan as displayed on the release. The filed plan was: pvd..put..nelie.J75.mxe.V378.balance..ZZZ the pre departure clearance received was: -put nelie J75 cmk-pvd..put..nelie.J75.mxe.V378.balance..ZZZ after discussion between the first officer and captain; the pvd-ZZZ company route was programmed then altered to read: pvd..put..nelie.J75.cmk.mxe.V378.balance..ZZZ enroute; ARTCC instructed us to proceed direct to a fix on J75 between cmk and mxe which was not on the route of flight. After querying center; they informed us that they showed us filed on J75 all the way to mxe instead of direct from cmk to mxe. There was no deviation of course because it was noted prior to crossing cmk. The inclusion of the filed route and the change on the received pre departure clearance was a source of confusion and the navigation was undetected prior to flight. In the event the pre departure clearance differs from the filed route; consideration should be given to displaying the amended clearance in its entirety in the pre departure clearance. This will alleviate confusion; saving time and mitigating the risk of gross navigation errors which are detrimental to safety and to the mission of our company.

Title: AN ACR CREW MISREAD A CLRNC BECAUSE THE AMENDED PDC SHORTENED THE RTE TO END AT THE LAST AIRWAY FIX IN THE ISSUING AGENCY'S AIRSPACE. THE REMAINDER OF THE RTE WAS OMITTED; LEAVING THE CREW TO GUESS INCORRECTLY ABOUT THE RTE.

Narrative: THE PDC CLRNC AS DISPLAYED ON THE MCDU WAS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FROM THE FILED FLT PLAN AS DISPLAYED ON THE RELEASE. THE FILED PLAN WAS: PVD..PUT..NELIE.J75.MXE.V378.BAL..ZZZ THE PDC RECEIVED WAS: -PUT NELIE J75 CMK-PVD..PUT..NELIE.J75.MXE.V378.BAL..ZZZ AFTER DISCUSSION BETWEEN THE FO AND CAPT; THE PVD-ZZZ COMPANY RTE WAS PROGRAMMED THEN ALTERED TO READ: PVD..PUT..NELIE.J75.CMK.MXE.V378.BAL..ZZZ ENROUTE; ARTCC INSTRUCTED US TO PROCEED DIRECT TO A FIX ON J75 BETWEEN CMK AND MXE WHICH WAS NOT ON THE RTE OF FLT. AFTER QUERYING CENTER; THEY INFORMED US THAT THEY SHOWED US FILED ON J75 ALL THE WAY TO MXE INSTEAD OF DIRECT FROM CMK TO MXE. THERE WAS NO DEV OF COURSE BECAUSE IT WAS NOTED PRIOR TO CROSSING CMK. THE INCLUSION OF THE FILED RTE AND THE CHANGE ON THE RECEIVED PDC WAS A SOURCE OF CONFUSION AND THE NAVIGATION WAS UNDETECTED PRIOR TO FLT. IN THE EVENT THE PDC DIFFERS FROM THE FILED RTE; CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO DISPLAYING THE AMENDED CLRNC IN ITS ENTIRETY IN THE PDC. THIS WILL ALLEVIATE CONFUSION; SAVING TIME AND MITIGATING THE RISK OF GROSS NAVIGATION ERRORS WHICH ARE DETRIMENTAL TO SAFETY AND TO THE MISSION OF OUR COMPANY.
