Narrative:

ATC gave us zzzzz at 10000 ft; we got high and were unable the crossing. ATC then gave us ZZZZZ1 at 9000 ft with a slow up. We advised ATC it would be tight. ATC asked why. We said we got behind on the descent. Both the first officer and myself have flown maximum hours this month and both are very tired. We got behind on the descent and recognized it late. No traffic problems occurred and we continued uneventfully.
