Narrative:
Cruising at FL350 red egt exceedance light came on with dial indication of high egt exceeding 965 degrees C. Declared emergency. Egt returned to normal when thrust lever #2 was put at idle. Diverted to nearest suitable airport. Prepared cabin for precautionary landing. Notified dispatch. After normal landing; crash fire rescue equipment inspection prior to terminating at the gate.

Title: A B737-400 ENG DEVELOPED HIGH EGT IN FLT. THE EGT RETURNED TO NORMAL WITH THE THRUST LEVER AT IDLE. THE FLT DIVERTED TO A NEARBY ARPT.
Narrative: CRUISING AT FL350 RED EGT EXCEEDANCE LIGHT CAME ON WITH DIAL INDICATION OF HIGH EGT EXCEEDING 965 DEGS C. DECLARED EMER. EGT RETURNED TO NORMAL WHEN THRUST LEVER #2 WAS PUT AT IDLE.
