Narrative:
Departing ZZZ; at rotation; saw a bird pass my left side. Flight attendants reported a loud bang and smell filled cabin and cockpit. Engine parameters for both engines were normal. Declared an emergency and returned to ZZZ for overweight landing. At the gate; mechanic found damage to left engine.
