Narrative:

Taxiing from ramp; we were instructed to taxi to runway 28 via turn left on taxiway M hold short runway 27R at dixie. We had expected to take off on runway 27R so the captain changed the runway in the FMS to runway 28 then we taxied to dixie to hold short of runway 27R there. As we approached dixie; we were told to switch to tower 123.85 and monitor. Tower told us to cross runway 27R; hold short runway 27L at N12 and monitor tower 119.3. We both had our airport diagram charts out and I pointed out as the captain taxied that N12 was at the end. The captain concurred; as she referenced her chart. The confusion began when we thought we were on taxiway J when in reality; dixie had merged into taxiway K as we crossed runway 27R. Thinking we were on taxiway J; we expected to taxi to N12 on taxiway J as there is a solid slab of concrete joining N12 to taxiway J; unlike the depiction on the airport diagram. As we crossed taxiway north; tower said to 'turn left and taxi to the approach end of runway 27L.' as it was too late to turn on taxiway north; we assumed he meant the next left; which was runway 27L. We realized something was wrong when we saw the company aircraft on 1 1/2 mi final on runway 27L and stopped with our nose over the hold short line about 10-15 ft. Tower instructed company traffic to go around and then cleared us to cross runway 27L; join taxiway right and taxi to runway 28. Part of the confusion was the aircraft in front of us that got the same instructions and used the same route.

Title: CRJ200 FLT CREW MISIDENTIFIED TXWYS AND INADVERTENTLY CROSSED THE RWY HOLD LINE; CREATING A RWY INCURSION AND TFC ON FINAL TO GO AROUND.

Narrative: TAXIING FROM RAMP; WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI TO RWY 28 VIA TURN L ON TXWY M HOLD SHORT RWY 27R AT DIXIE. WE HAD EXPECTED TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 27R SO THE CAPT CHANGED THE RWY IN THE FMS TO RWY 28 THEN WE TAXIED TO DIXIE TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27R THERE. AS WE APCHED DIXIE; WE WERE TOLD TO SWITCH TO TWR 123.85 AND MONITOR. TWR TOLD US TO CROSS RWY 27R; HOLD SHORT RWY 27L AT N12 AND MONITOR TWR 119.3. WE BOTH HAD OUR ARPT DIAGRAM CHARTS OUT AND I POINTED OUT AS THE CAPT TAXIED THAT N12 WAS AT THE END. THE CAPT CONCURRED; AS SHE REFED HER CHART. THE CONFUSION BEGAN WHEN WE THOUGHT WE WERE ON TXWY J WHEN IN REALITY; DIXIE HAD MERGED INTO TXWY K AS WE CROSSED RWY 27R. THINKING WE WERE ON TXWY J; WE EXPECTED TO TAXI TO N12 ON TXWY J AS THERE IS A SOLID SLAB OF CONCRETE JOINING N12 TO TXWY J; UNLIKE THE DEPICTION ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM. AS WE CROSSED TXWY N; TWR SAID TO 'TURN L AND TAXI TO THE APCH END OF RWY 27L.' AS IT WAS TOO LATE TO TURN ON TXWY N; WE ASSUMED HE MEANT THE NEXT L; WHICH WAS RWY 27L. WE REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WHEN WE SAW THE COMPANY ACFT ON 1 1/2 MI FINAL ON RWY 27L AND STOPPED WITH OUR NOSE OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE ABOUT 10-15 FT. TWR INSTRUCTED COMPANY TFC TO GO AROUND AND THEN CLRED US TO CROSS RWY 27L; JOIN TXWY R AND TAXI TO RWY 28. PART OF THE CONFUSION WAS THE ACFT IN FRONT OF US THAT GOT THE SAME INSTRUCTIONS AND USED THE SAME RTE.
