Narrative:

I was flying into mtn by ric.ravnn 2 STAR and when passing zakto intersection I was on a heading of 299 degrees and potomac approach told me to maintain 2000 ft until established on the localizer 33 approach; the GS was out; and by staying on the heading after zakto; did not intercept to localizer outside of cindi. The approach came out ok; but it was not the proper way to do it. I should have asked my copilot to request a radar vector to intercept or if that wasn't available; request an IAF so that I would have more time to get set up for the approach. When things don't seem right; it would be wise to ask questions instead of trying to make it work.
