Narrative:

During our visual approach; we were configuring the aircraft for landing on runway xxr. Upon gear deployment; we got a left main gear disagreement and the left main gear icon was red. I had slowed the aircraft previously to 200 KTS and extended the flaps to 20 degrees then; prior to intercepting the GS on the marker; I slowed to 180 KTS and called for the gear down. The nose and right main gear came down and locked; but the left main gear remained indicating up. We were at 2500 ft MSL now on the GS and I executed a go around. ATC gave us a climb to 3000 ft MSL and a heading of 330 degrees. I executed the climb out at 200 KTS. Once we were stabilized at 3000 ft MSL; I asked the first officer to get the QRH and run the checklist. As he was beginning the QRH; we heard a thump and then the left main gear icon went green. We now had all 3 gear icons green. We were vectored back to visual for runway xxl this time and made a safe landing.
