Narrative:

After engine start I had to make a hard-over left turn to leave the gate and taxi wbound as instructed by ramp tower. As I started the turn I saw a white tug with a single baggage cart in tow approaching from the west of me in the driving lane. I thought he was stopping so I commenced my turn. I briefly looked the other way for more traffic and when I looked back in the direction I was turning I saw the tug still speeding towards me. I then realized he had no intention of stopping; so I quickly applied the brakes and stopped so as not to hit this guy. He swerved a little bit and kept right on going. Being in a full tiller turn caused the aircraft to sway significantly from side-to-side as it came to a stop. Enough so that I called the flight attendants to see if anyone was injured by this. The purser said no but she was thrown sideways when this happened. Airport needs to push us farther back and counsel these tug drivers better.
