Narrative:

I was ferrying a mooney M20R for repair. The aircraft had been landed wheels up and received minimal damage as it landed on grass. The owner had manually extended the gear and was safely locked down. I inspected the aircraft and found safe for ferry after replacing the propeller. I flew with the gear extended per the ferry permit; touching down at last light. I touched down in a normal landing and at about 40 KTS; I felt and heard a loud bang and the nose gear collapsed. I slid to a halt in a short distance. We are waiting to disassemble the plane and find the cause. The main gear remains firmly locked.
