Narrative:

Just passed overhead ZZZ VOR at 11000 ft at XA30Z and we had slowed to 220 KTS. The EICAS message 'engine left oil temperature hi' illuminated. I put the aircraft on autoplt and we ran the indicated checklist. When the left throttle was retarded to idle the EICAS caution disappeared. We continued the approach with the engine at idle and set up for a flaps 20 degree approach. As we crossed the OM the EICAS caution message appeared again at XA41Z. I elected to land with the engine at idle and then we shut the left engine down after we cleared the runway at XA44Z. Taxi and parking were normal.
