Narrative:

Shelf-life was not read by myself and other handlers. Out of date (shelf life expired) aft battery was installed during an a-chk on aircraft while in the hangar. Ordered parts (batteries) from stores department. Batteries were delivered to aircraft immediately installed. Expiration date was overlooked. Possible paperwork review. Aircraft scheduled for battery replacement. I should not have trusted someone else to give me a good part (not expired); however the stores department and our company inventory program should have flagged the expired battery before it was delivered to me. Also; repetitive audits should be accomplished on shelf life items and hazmat items as well.
