Narrative:

On climb out both of us noticed an unusual odor. Aircraft was empty. #3 battery showed amber abnormal indication. First officer radar picture wad distorted by horizontal amber line. On initial climb through 14800 ft to 16000 ft, told ATC we wanted to remain at 16000 ft and return to memphis. In heat of battle, exceeded 250 ft below 10000 ft for approximately 200 ft as misread airspeed as 250 KTS when actually doing 270 KTS. Supplemental information from acn 420409: after takeoff, both pilots noticed a very strong, sudden and unusual smell in the cockpit. This was accompanied by unusual battery ECAM indications and first officer's navigation display showed unusual indication concurrently (WX radar problem -- probably unrelated). We turned around and landed at memphis international.
