Narrative:
Local cross country flight in glider -- just 'on' GS to ZZZ. I hit heavy sink; couldn't activate appropriate handheld GPS 'page' to nearest airport (westerio (put) on wax wing (put)); ie; head in cockpit; and before I knew it; I was too low to get to ZZZ. Circled over a cluster of fields and chose the up sloping one; recently hayed (ie; hay mowed); as it had no obstruction on final. Full pattern executed but on final upslope steeper than anticipated; and a landing on an angle and crosswind dropped my right wing and a 90 degree backward ground loop down the side slope occurred. Damage to aircraft (fuselage nose; horizontal). Poor judgement of GS to ZZZ given conditions and wind. I need also to know my GPS better.
