Narrative:

Departed runway 24 at teb on the teb 5 departure. At airport boundary; called 'flaps up; autoplt on.' aircraft started to pitch up to 15 degrees at this point. Power was reduced and aircraft continued to climb at a rapid rate. At 1400 ft; both pilots attempted manual level off; autoplt disconnected because of high climb rate; aircraft reached 1700 ft before a descent to 1500 ft was established on a heading of 280 degrees. Controller advised crew of altitude deviation and reason for the 1500 ft level off altitude. When asked if there was going to be a problem; he responded 'no problem' and cleared us to 6000 ft; still on the 280 degree heading. Flight continued to destination with no further problems with the autoplt noticed by the crew.

Title: FLT CREW DEVIATED FROM PUBLISHED ALT; UTILIZING AUTOPLT ON DEP.

Narrative: DEPARTED RWY 24 AT TEB ON THE TEB 5 DEP. AT ARPT BOUNDARY; CALLED 'FLAPS UP; AUTOPLT ON.' ACFT STARTED TO PITCH UP TO 15 DEGS AT THIS POINT. POWER WAS REDUCED AND ACFT CONTINUED TO CLB AT A RAPID RATE. AT 1400 FT; BOTH PLTS ATTEMPTED MANUAL LEVEL OFF; AUTOPLT DISCONNECTED BECAUSE OF HIGH CLB RATE; ACFT REACHED 1700 FT BEFORE A DESCENT TO 1500 FT WAS ESTABLISHED ON A HEADING OF 280 DEGS. CTLR ADVISED CREW OF ALT DEVIATION AND REASON FOR THE 1500 FT LEVEL OFF ALT. WHEN ASKED IF THERE WAS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM; HE RESPONDED 'NO PROBLEM' AND CLRED US TO 6000 FT; STILL ON THE 280 DEG HEADING. FLT CONTINUED TO DEST WITH NO FURTHER PROBS WITH THE AUTOPLT NOTICED BY THE CREW.
