Narrative:

I was informed today that a report was issued alleging that I had falsified records on aircraft X previously. I was told that it involved a safety item of signing a job card X; leading edge torque tube lube. The incident; best to my recollection is as follows: the X card had been an issue in the past where it was assigned late in the check where the access area through the forward cargo gets closed up and it is required to be opened again to complete this card. I am not sure which aircraft it was; but I can assume it was aircraft X according the information I received today. I had early in the check taken a 'reference copy' to the forward cargo to grease the couplings myself. I did not take the original bill of work copy. I had also taken a grease gun to accomplish this card myself to see if accomplishing this card early in the check would make a difference in planning the flow. The grease gun I was using was working intermittently. I greased the fittings. With the intermittent grease gun; I was still able to determine that accomplishing this card very early in the check would be advantageous. Later that same evening; since the grease gun I was using was intermittent; I assigned that card to amt to grease and to verify there was enough grease in the couplings. I instructed amt to make sure the card gets signed off as well. Later again I questioned amt if in fact the couplings were greased and amt confirmed to me that they had. I asked if amt had signed the card and said no; but would. At the end of the check an amt came to my desk to explain that the access in the cargo to accomplish the card was closed. I said that it was already accomplished and that I would take it. I concluded that the intermittent grease gun had greased sufficiently enough for me to sign the card myself. I also took into consideration that amt had confirmed to me that they had greased it also. We both had worked the card and signed for it when they hadn't.

Title: AN AIRLINE MECH RESPONDS TO A RPT THAT HE ALLEGEDLY FALSIFIED MAINT RECORDS REGARDING GREASING OF THE LEADING EDGE TORQUE TUBES.

Narrative: I WAS INFORMED TODAY THAT A RPT WAS ISSUED ALLEGING THAT I HAD FALSIFIED RECORDS ON ACFT X PREVIOUSLY. I WAS TOLD THAT IT INVOLVED A SAFETY ITEM OF SIGNING A JOB CARD X; LEADING EDGE TORQUE TUBE LUBE. THE INCIDENT; BEST TO MY RECOLLECTION IS AS FOLLOWS: THE X CARD HAD BEEN AN ISSUE IN THE PAST WHERE IT WAS ASSIGNED LATE IN THE CHK WHERE THE ACCESS AREA THROUGH THE FORWARD CARGO GETS CLOSED UP AND IT IS REQUIRED TO BE OPENED AGAIN TO COMPLETE THIS CARD. I AM NOT SURE WHICH ACFT IT WAS; BUT I CAN ASSUME IT WAS ACFT X ACCORDING THE INFO I RECEIVED TODAY. I HAD EARLY IN THE CHK TAKEN A 'REF COPY' TO THE FORWARD CARGO TO GREASE THE COUPLINGS MYSELF. I DID NOT TAKE THE ORIGINAL BILL OF WORK COPY. I HAD ALSO TAKEN A GREASE GUN TO ACCOMPLISH THIS CARD MYSELF TO SEE IF ACCOMPLISHING THIS CARD EARLY IN THE CHK WOULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN PLANNING THE FLOW. THE GREASE GUN I WAS USING WAS WORKING INTERMITTENTLY. I GREASED THE FITTINGS. WITH THE INTERMITTENT GREASE GUN; I WAS STILL ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT ACCOMPLISHING THIS CARD VERY EARLY IN THE CHK WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS. AT THE END OF THE CHK AN AMT CAME TO MY DESK TO EXPLAIN THAT THE ACCESS IN THE CARGO TO ACCOMPLISH THE CARD WAS CLOSED.
