Narrative:

Departing teb runway 24; teb 5 departure SID calls for climb to 1500 ft then at 1500 ft left turn to 4.5 DME then climb and maintain 2000 ft. Noise abatement procedures in effect. Inadvertently climbed to 1800 feet prior to 4.5 DME. Information/event: was concerned about noise abatement climbed slightly quicker/steeper then normal. Programmed FMS and engaged autoplt after takeoff. Switched to departure frequency; was asked by departure what procedure we were on (caused a momentary distraction) just as autoplt started to turn at 1500 ft and continued to climb toward 2000 ft. Turned off autoplt and descend back to 1500 ft. Highest altitude observed approximately 1780 ft. No conflict with other traffic no TCAS but controller noted the deviation. Cause: prior to departure briefed departure and discussed with other crew member. Both crewmembers confirmed altitude and discussed the 1500 ft level off prior to departure. Inadvertently set 2000 ft as the initial altitude for level off (both crew members observed and noted the 2000 ft). Also under class B airspace and was using vigilance to keep speed below 200 KTS. Long duty day; 9+30. Had been awake early due to thunderstorms in the area. The combination of factors caused the deviation. Next time will exercise more vigilance.

Title: LEARJET CREW EXCEEDS 1500 FT ON THE TEB 5 DEP PRIOR TO 4.5 DME.

Narrative: DEPARTING TEB RWY 24; TEB 5 DEPARTURE SID CALLS FOR CLIMB TO 1500 FT THEN AT 1500 FT LEFT TURN TO 4.5 DME THEN CLIMB AND MAINTAIN 2000 FT. NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES IN EFFECT. INADVERTENTLY CLIMBED TO 1800 FEET PRIOR TO 4.5 DME. INFO/EVENT: WAS CONCERNED ABOUT NOISE ABATEMENT CLIMBED SLIGHTLY QUICKER/STEEPER THEN NORMAL. PROGRAMMED FMS AND ENGAGED AUTOPLT AFTER TAKEOFF. SWITCHED TO DEP FREQ; WAS ASKED BY DEP WHAT PROCEDURE WE WERE ON (CAUSED A MOMENTARY DISTRACTION) JUST AS AUTOPLT STARTED TO TURN AT 1500 FT AND CONTINUED TO CLIMB TOWARD 2000 FT. TURNED OFF AUTOPLT AND DESCEND BACK TO 1500 FT. HIGHEST ALT OBSERVED APPROX 1780 FT.
