Narrative:

During departure on the loupe 1 SID from runway 30R at sjc we were cleared to 5000 ft. Once on the SID and turning south; we were 5 mi east of the sjc VOR and norcal told us to comply with the speed restrs. We both were curious as to what he was implying as there were no stated speed restrs on the SID. Within 1 min of his original call he stated to comply with the speed restrs per far 91 something. At this point we realized we were in the transition from in the class B to underlying the class B. We immediately slowed to 200 KTS and continued the climb to our newly cleared altitude of 12000 ft. Above 10000 ft we accelerated to our climb speed. No further inquiries from ATC were received and we continued the flight. Supplemental information from acn 723839: this airport has a moderate CFIT risk due terrain over 4000 ft 10 NM east; and this departure event was from an unfamiliar field. Lesson learned: as captain I should have planned better and emphasized in our departure brief the airspeed restrs required for flying the loupe 1 SID as it progressed from class C through class east (underneath class B) and then into class B airspace. Despite my concern for the airport's CFIT risk; I should have caught our acceleration above 200 KTS as pilot monitoring.

Title: AN ACFT DEPARTING ON THE SJC LOUPE 1 SID EXCEEDS THE CLASS B AIRSPACE SPD RESTR BELOW 10000 FT.

Narrative: DURING DEP ON THE LOUPE 1 SID FROM RWY 30R AT SJC WE WERE CLRED TO 5000 FT. ONCE ON THE SID AND TURNING S; WE WERE 5 MI E OF THE SJC VOR AND NORCAL TOLD US TO COMPLY WITH THE SPD RESTRS. WE BOTH WERE CURIOUS AS TO WHAT HE WAS IMPLYING AS THERE WERE NO STATED SPD RESTRS ON THE SID. WITHIN 1 MIN OF HIS ORIGINAL CALL HE STATED TO COMPLY WITH THE SPD RESTRS PER FAR 91 SOMETHING. AT THIS POINT WE REALIZED WE WERE IN THE TRANSITION FROM IN THE CLASS B TO UNDERLYING THE CLASS B. WE IMMEDIATELY SLOWED TO 200 KTS AND CONTINUED THE CLB TO OUR NEWLY CLRED ALT OF 12000 FT. ABOVE 10000 FT WE ACCELERATED TO OUR CLB SPD. NO FURTHER INQUIRIES FROM ATC WERE RECEIVED AND WE CONTINUED THE FLT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 723839: THIS ARPT HAS A MODERATE CFIT RISK DUE TERRAIN OVER 4000 FT 10 NM E; AND THIS DEP EVENT WAS FROM AN UNFAMILIAR FIELD. LESSON LEARNED: AS CAPT I SHOULD HAVE PLANNED BETTER AND EMPHASIZED IN OUR DEP BRIEF THE AIRSPD RESTRS REQUIRED FOR FLYING THE LOUPE 1 SID AS IT PROGRESSED FROM CLASS C THROUGH CLASS E (UNDERNEATH CLASS B) AND THEN INTO CLASS B AIRSPACE. DESPITE MY CONCERN FOR THE ARPT'S CFIT RISK; I SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT OUR ACCELERATION ABOVE 200 KTS AS PLT MONITORING.
