Narrative:

Operating aircraft as flight abc san-dfw; we had just leveled at FL310. Left generator tripped on and off several times. CSD oil outlet temperature was high -- over red line. Accomplished QRH 'CSD oil o-let temperature high' procedure and turned l-hand generator off. CSD oil temperature began to cool; no CSD disconnect was required. We made 4 attempts to start the APU at FL300; FL290; FL270; and FL250. APU would not start. QRH procedure required landing at nearest suitable airport. An overweight landing was made at phx in accordance with QRH procedure. The touchdown was smooth (less than 100 FPM) and brake temperatures remained normal. WX in phx was cavu; light winds; outside air temperature 17 degrees C.
