Narrative:

We were servicing aircraft on ground for an overboard duct for electrical cooling air. This duct comes off the automatic flow control valve. Both items were removed for a fuselage skin repair. When we received the new duct it appeared to be short. I temporarily installed said valve (that was my intent) and duct to take a measurement. I found the duct to in fact be too short. I did not remove either item. Since I was only going to see how short the duct was I did not look to see how the valve was installed. By not removing the valve I gave the mechanics who took over a misdirection.
