Narrative:

On vector to FAF runway 35R at mco we sighted airport and were cleared visual approach to runway 35R with another aircraft in sight crossing our path to the inside runway. I sometimes have trouble at mco on visual approachs since runways 17L; 35R is way east of the terminal area. For that reason after I think I've idented runway I refer to the FMC lineup and ILS information to confirm my position. Anyway after a few seconds tower offered us runway 35L and I accepted. I looked at the other aircraft (I thought was going there) and the FMS to see were displaced to the left of the FMC line. I rolled out and asked the first officer to enter the new runway. About this time I was thinking our company's minimum requirement for a visual is both pilots positively identing the runway. I figured I was lining up on the left west side and started a correction. Apparently the other aircraft was going to the west side (not the inside) and the first officer had already input the FMS change. Now tower reclred me to runway 35R and I landed uneventfully. As far as I know; no conflict; no big deal; but it could have been. Lessons? 17000+ hours and it's still a good idea to use all available information and follow company policies!
