Narrative:

During takeoff; as we were putting in the power; the left generator tripped. I stopped the takeoff since only a few KTS of airspeed was attained. We told the tower we were stopping the takeoff and exited the first taxiway. We reviewed the QRH and reset the tripped generator. We got in line for takeoff and departed. On departure; the left generator drive light came on. We followed the QRH; started the APU for a second source of electrical power. ACARS dispatch with the information. This is the third time I have had generator issues in the last 18 months. The last time the maintenance technician said that since air carrier has reduced the pre-service checks they are not checking the idg levels as often than in the past. The last time the oil level was low in the idg. That is all it was to cause the idg due to low oil level.
