Narrative:

Over the runway 15 threshold; we encountered wake turbulence from a departing gulfstream that had departed runway 33 about 30 seconds before. Was able to maintain control and made an uneventful landing. The density altitude was 10000 ft. If we had attempted a go around; we may not make it due to rising terrain. At aspen airport; you land on runway 15 and take off on runway 33 due to the terrain. The volume of traffic at the aspen airport has increased over the yrs to include the summertime and not just the winter ski season. While the aspen tower do a fairly good job; the separation of arrs and departures is tight at best. A factor is when an aircraft is cleared for takeoff; some aircraft start their takeoff roll immediate while others may take 20-30 seconds reducing the separation of arriving aircraft and increasing the chance of wake turbulence for arriving aircraft. Recommend they build a better airport about 20 mi north around carbondale which is in a big open valley at lower elevation to eliminate the 1-WAY-in and 1-WAY-out airport at aspen. The land is cheaper to the north compared to what the land at aspen airport is worth. I have flown into aspen over 100 times and feel it is an accident waiting to happen.

Title: A C560XL ENCOUNTERED WAKE TURB ON LNDG AT ASE AND WONDERED ABOUT HIS GAR PERFORMANCE CAPABILITY IF ONE HAD BEEN NECESSARY.

Narrative: OVER THE RWY 15 THRESHOLD; WE ENCOUNTERED WAKE TURB FROM A DEPARTING GULFSTREAM THAT HAD DEPARTED RWY 33 ABOUT 30 SECONDS BEFORE. WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CTL AND MADE AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. THE DENSITY ALT WAS 10000 FT. IF WE HAD ATTEMPTED A GAR; WE MAY NOT MAKE IT DUE TO RISING TERRAIN. AT ASPEN ARPT; YOU LAND ON RWY 15 AND TAKE OFF ON RWY 33 DUE TO THE TERRAIN. THE VOLUME OF TFC AT THE ASPEN ARPT HAS INCREASED OVER THE YRS TO INCLUDE THE SUMMERTIME AND NOT JUST THE WINTER SKI SEASON. WHILE THE ASPEN TWR DO A FAIRLY GOOD JOB; THE SEPARATION OF ARRS AND DEPS IS TIGHT AT BEST. A FACTOR IS WHEN AN ACFT IS CLRED FOR TKOF; SOME ACFT START THEIR TKOF ROLL IMMEDIATE WHILE OTHERS MAY TAKE 20-30 SECONDS REDUCING THE SEPARATION OF ARRIVING ACFT AND INCREASING THE CHANCE OF WAKE TURB FOR ARRIVING ACFT. RECOMMEND THEY BUILD A BETTER ARPT ABOUT 20 MI N AROUND CARBONDALE WHICH IS IN A BIG OPEN VALLEY AT LOWER ELEVATION TO ELIMINATE THE 1-WAY-IN AND 1-WAY-OUT ARPT AT ASPEN. THE LAND IS CHEAPER TO THE N COMPARED TO WHAT THE LAND AT ASPEN ARPT IS WORTH. I HAVE FLOWN INTO ASPEN OVER 100 TIMES AND FEEL IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.
