Narrative:

My student and I were conducting training maneuvers when an aircraft climbing out from the medford rogue valley airport came into very close proximity to us. We were getting TA's from cascade approach at the time; they had asked us if we had traffic in sight and we did approximately at our 12 O'clock position and 3 mi climbing. In trying to avoid the departure area of medford; I requested that my student make a turn to the north and in doing so lost sight of the climbing traffic. After rolling out of the turn and proceeding northbound; I began to instruct my student on the next series of maneuvers. As we scanned the area for traffic notice that we were closing in very rapidly on an aircraft and in doing so made another northerly turn to avoid a collision. Due to the increased volume in medford departures; arrs; flight training; I have relocated the area in which we practice to help reduce the possibility of this type of situation. Contributing factors: not knowing the other aircraft's intentions.

Narrative: MY STUDENT AND I WERE CONDUCTING TRAINING MANEUVERS WHEN AN ACFT CLBING OUT FROM THE MEDFORD ROGUE VALLEY ARPT CAME INTO VERY CLOSE PROX TO US. WE WERE GETTING TA'S FROM CASCADE APCH AT THE TIME; THEY HAD ASKED US IF WE HAD TFC IN SIGHT AND WE DID APPROX AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS AND 3 MI CLBING. IN TRYING TO AVOID THE DEP AREA OF MEDFORD; I REQUESTED THAT MY STUDENT MAKE A TURN TO THE N AND IN DOING SO LOST SIGHT OF THE CLBING TFC. AFTER ROLLING OUT OF THE TURN AND PROCEEDING NBOUND; I BEGAN TO INSTRUCT MY STUDENT ON THE NEXT SERIES OF MANEUVERS. AS WE SCANNED THE AREA FOR TFC NOTICE THAT WE WERE CLOSING IN VERY RAPIDLY ON AN ACFT AND IN DOING SO MADE ANOTHER NORTHERLY TURN TO AVOID A COLLISION. DUE TO THE INCREASED VOLUME IN MEDFORD DEPS; ARRS; FLT TRAINING; I HAVE RELOCATED THE AREA IN WHICH WE PRACTICE TO HELP REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS TYPE OF SIT. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: NOT KNOWING THE OTHER ACFT'S INTENTIONS.
