Narrative:

On the kennedy 9 departure; off runway 31L breezy point climb; I took off and; upon reaching acceleration altitude; I turned to a 245 degree heading to cross canarsie and remain within 4.5 miles of kennedy VOR. The wind was out of the west at about 28 KTS during the climb. I did not cross directly over canarsie. Because I did not apply enough wind correction; I crossed southeast of canarsie by just over a half of a mile and turned further right to intercept the 223 radial as required. Before reaching the radial; ATC inquired as to which departure we were on and told us that we were east of course and never crossed canarsie. We told him we were correcting our course and no further comments were made by ATC.
