Narrative:

I was on approach to runway 17. The approach was; in all respects; normal. My airspeed was about 75 mph with 20 degrees of flaps. My right hand was on the throttle in case a go around was necessary but there was no indication that a go around might be necessary. The airplane was stabilized; appeared ready to touch down on or near the centerline; about 75 ft to 100 ft beyond the large touchdown stripes. When the landing gear was about 2 or 3 ft above the runway surface; the aircraft was suddenly slammed downward against the pavement as if I had encountered a severe downdraft. Before I could respond with countermeasures; the airplane impacted the runway surface with all 3 wheels at once. After taxiing to the ramp and shutting down; I noted that the impact had caused the nose gear to be bent forward about 20 degrees and the tips of the propeller to strike the runway.
