Narrative:
Captain rejected takeoff prior to 80 KTS due to EICAS indication of a bleed anomaly. Having reviewed the applicable MEL card; with the captain; associated with the right engine bleed/pack system. I did not anticipate that an EICAS message and associated overhead lights would illuminate during takeoff. I was not surprised; however; that the takeoff was rejected prior to 80 KTS for the EICAS message; since this SOP had been previously briefed. This just seemed like another 'normal' rejected takeoff! As I reviewed the MEL prior to departure; I specifically looked for a statement such as 'EICAS message illumination during takeoff is normal.' however; I never saw any text to that effect. Possibly; during the review of numerous MEL cards associated with the aircraft rolling off the printer in random 'parts;' this type of statement may have [been] missed by us; the flight crew. Supplemental information from acn 701772: I was notified that I may have missed one of the 'notes' that is part of the MEL card. Had I seen or read this part; the aborted takeoff could have been prevented. I requested the 3 MEL cards; but they did not print as 3 individual whole cards; but printed out somewhat randomly.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 FLT CREW EXECUTES A REJECTED TKOF AT PDX.
Narrative: CAPT REJECTED TKOF PRIOR TO 80 KTS DUE TO EICAS INDICATION OF A BLEED ANOMALY. HAVING REVIEWED THE APPLICABLE MEL CARD; WITH THE CAPT; ASSOCIATED WITH THE R ENG BLEED/PACK SYS. I DID NOT ANTICIPATE THAT AN EICAS MESSAGE AND ASSOCIATED OVERHEAD LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE DURING TKOF. I WAS NOT SURPRISED; HOWEVER; THAT THE TKOF WAS REJECTED PRIOR TO 80 KTS FOR THE EICAS MESSAGE; SINCE THIS SOP HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY BRIEFED. THIS JUST SEEMED LIKE ANOTHER 'NORMAL' REJECTED TKOF! AS I REVIEWED THE MEL PRIOR TO DEP; I SPECIFICALLY LOOKED FOR A STATEMENT SUCH AS 'EICAS MESSAGE ILLUMINATION DURING TKOF IS NORMAL.' HOWEVER; I NEVER SAW ANY TEXT TO THAT EFFECT. POSSIBLY; DURING THE REVIEW OF NUMEROUS MEL CARDS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ACFT ROLLING OFF THE PRINTER IN RANDOM 'PARTS;' THIS TYPE OF STATEMENT MAY HAVE [BEEN] MISSED BY US; THE FLT CREW. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 701772: I WAS NOTIFIED THAT I MAY HAVE MISSED ONE OF THE 'NOTES' THAT IS PART OF THE MEL CARD. HAD I SEEN OR READ THIS PART; THE ABORTED TKOF COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. I REQUESTED THE 3 MEL CARDS; BUT THEY DID NOT PRINT AS 3 INDIVIDUAL WHOLE CARDS; BUT PRINTED OUT SOMEWHAT RANDOMLY.
