Narrative:

I was working R7; arrs and departures; into and out of salt lake approach. Aircraft X was a northbound departure (PA46) climbing to FL220; aircraft Y was a departing crj behind the PA46. Aircraft X requested FL240. As I issued him the climb; I thought he was out of FL210 (I saw 220N in the data block; mistaking it for 220C); so I stopped aircraft Y's climb at FL210. The conflict alert later activated. I initially turned aircraft Y 30 degrees right; then further turned him to a 090 degree heading (approximately 90 degrees right). I also instructed aircraft X to expedite his climb through FL220.

Title: ZLC CTLR EXPERIENCED LOSS OF SEPARATION AT FL210 WHEN MISREADING DATA BLOCK INFO AND CLBING DEP THROUGH PREVIOUS DEP ACFT.

Narrative: I WAS WORKING R7; ARRS AND DEPS; INTO AND OUT OF SALT LAKE APCH. ACFT X WAS A NBOUND DEP (PA46) CLBING TO FL220; ACFT Y WAS A DEPARTING CRJ BEHIND THE PA46. ACFT X REQUESTED FL240. AS I ISSUED HIM THE CLB; I THOUGHT HE WAS OUT OF FL210 (I SAW 220N IN THE DATA BLOCK; MISTAKING IT FOR 220C); SO I STOPPED ACFT Y'S CLB AT FL210. THE CONFLICT ALERT LATER ACTIVATED. I INITIALLY TURNED ACFT Y 30 DEGS R; THEN FURTHER TURNED HIM TO A 090 DEG HDG (APPROX 90 DEGS R). I ALSO INSTRUCTED ACFT X TO EXPEDITE HIS CLB THROUGH FL220.
