Narrative:

While on an FAA practical check ride for my mei; I was in the pattern at laurel performing touch-and-goes. We lifted off runway 4 at 6s8 and were 700 ft AGL when I made a radio call on the CTAF stating that we were turning left crosswind. In mid turn; I noticed an aircraft approaching from below and in front of us. Full abrupt control of the aircraft was made and I made a steep climbing right turn as to avoid the aircraft and a near miss. Probably a maximum of 50 ft between the 2 aircraft. I then entered into the downwind returning to a full stop.
